Introduction to Art 
Grades 9-12; 1 credit/full year 
This class is an introductory course designed for students of all skill levels.   It is prerequisite for most visual art classes.   The course primarily deals with basic art concepts using a variety of materials.   Some aspects of art history wil also be included.

Drawing and Design 

Grades 10-12; .5 credit/semester 
Prerequisite:   Introduction to Art 
This course is for students who have mastered fundamental skills in art and who would like to further develop their abilities.   Pencils, oil pastels, ink, and paint will be used in the class.   The creative use of balance, unity, proportion, and contrast will be emphasized.

Painting 
Grades 10-12; .5 credit/semester 
Prerequisite:   Drawing and Design 
This is a course for the serious art student and painter.   Work will be done in watercolor, oil, and acrylic paint.   Paints and paint surfaces must be furnished or purchased by students.

Ceramics 
Grades 9-12; .5 credit/semester 
Lab Fees Apply 
In this course, students will learn the basic techniques of hand-built clay projects.   As the student's construction skills develop, emphasis will be on creative use of three dimensional design and texture.  


Ceramics II/Sculpture 
Grades 10-12; .5 credit/semester 
Prerequisite:   Ceramics 
Lab Fees Apply 
This course is a continuation of Ceramics.   Students will develop further hand-building techniques in more challenging pottery forms.   Students may also experiment with wheel throwing.   In addition, students will study sculptural mediums and develop artistic skill with various three-dimensional design problems.

Multicultural Arts 
Grades 9-12; .5 credit/semester 
Lab Fees Apply 
This course offers students the ability to study various cultures and their art forms. Projects are primarily three-dimensional in the areas of fiber design, papercraft, sculpting, and painting.   Students are encouraged to develop self expression and creativity.
